Compeer
As the heart of our organization the Compeer program consists of volunteers in San Diego County donating four hours of their time each month to be a friend to someone in need.
Compeer International is an established worldwide organization that pairs peer advocates to persons with a mental illness. Learn how to become a Compeer volunteer.

According to Compeer, these friendships have tremendous results including: 70% reduction in psychiatric hospitalization rate, 75% reduction in use of emergency services, and an 82% increase in self-esteem.
These friendships are invalueable and also provide the following:
Social Skills - When people suffering with a mental illness are having a 'bad' day they turn inwards and their social skills decrease over time. A friend can help them to re-learn how to communicate and socialize.
Work Skills - Volunteers can help individuals decide which skills they can perform and help them to realize their potential.
Basic Life Skills - Include helping individuals remember to keep up their basic hygiene, healthy eating habits, and other daily activities.
