Information
Access to information regarding medicines, doctors, programs, facilities, insurance, and support groups. Provide resources about the many different programs offered in San Diego, which assist in the process of recovery. The following information can be found under resources:
Support Groups - Family members need to surround themselves with people who are going through similar problems. You can find under Support Groups information about what support groups exist and what topics they will cover. Partnership 4 Chances will also be holding support groups for siblings. Check back to find out more information about P4C Sibling Support Group.
Doctors and Medicines - Find a list of doctors in San Diego. Listed next to their name will indicate what insurance they accept and if they are taking on any new patients. There are multiple types of medications for each different disease, and it is difficult to determine which medicine will work. Each medicine has side effects associated with it. These side effects range from; weight gain, sleepiness, and tremors to uncontrolled muscular movements. It is important to conduct research about the medicines available and not to simply rely on a doctor's prescription. Please review the list of medications and side effects.
Health Information - Learning about the disease. Educating oneself about what is going on with the individual is one of the most important steps to recovery. Once a person has been diagnosed with a particular disease it is best for the family to read as much information about it as possible. By doing this, family members will be able to identify when the person with the illness is in need of immediate care, or even better when they are doing well. NAMI San Diego conducts this type of program. Check back to find out where and when they are holding their next program.
Government Links - Under the resource page there is a list of government links to help you get and understand disability, insurance, and what is available to you.
